Hi Rule The Rail friends, In the meantime there are fortunately so many user layouts that I completely lost overview and don’t know what kind of layout is exactly hidden behind the one or the other layout name.
For that reason I have created a small utitility, the
Rule The Rail Layout Viewer: The tool reads all “roa” files and shows screenshots and descriptions of the layout as far as they exist.
It will soon be offered as free download on my website, together with the screenshots and descriptions of the layouts on my harddisk. Of course users can create their own descriptions and pictures.
For more detailed information please take a look here:

I hope, my
Rule The Rail Layout Viewerwill be a little help for you. Best regards,
Willi

October 11, 2006 at 7:18 pm #930AnonymousInactiveHi, Willi, This program add-on looks as it will be a good addition, hope I don’t miss out on it.
Can we edit it, like move plans about, add/delete, group together.
Reg.
October 11, 2006 at 11:32 pm #931AnonymousInactiveHi RTR friends, I’m glad that you like my soon coming small tool. I have done it with the old version of the program I used to create it. And this version doesn’t support JPG files. I noticed now, that this isn’t practicable as I have just made screenshots of about 1/3 of the layouts on my harddisk, and the picture directory has already a size of 16.5 MB.
So I will order the latest version of the software, which supports JPG files, to create the tool. And I had the same thoughts like Biggs (and Jürgen on my Forum) and will add some file handling functions to the Layout Viewer. So you will be able to move layout files to an archive with subdirectories like “Tech Demos”, “Author X” and so on… This way you can start Rule The Rail with only the layout files you wish/need for this session.
I hope the reworked Layout Viewer will be available for free download in about 1 or 2 weeks.
Kind regards,
Willi
P.S. Governor, I’m very pleased to meet you in the forum!
October 16, 2006 at 9:55 am #932AnonymousInactiveThat layout editor does look good and maybe this could find a use for somthing that i have as well as RTR Keep up the good work.
October 16, 2006 at 4:08 pm #933AnonymousInactiveHi, It’s great to have the Rule The Rail forum back!
I already missed it. In the meantime I have reworked the Layout viewer. Now you can browse your layouts in the Rule The Rail directory and in the archives. Layouts can be moved from Rule The Rail to any archive und be copied back from there.
Additionaly you can create new or delete old archive directories. Archived layouts can be saved with a new name or be deleted. And the latest added feature: Rule The Rail can now be launched directly from the Layout Viewer.

October 19, 2006 at 2:41 pm #934AnonymousInactiveYour editor, I am looking forward to it. What about an editor to change the wagons.
Like I have one original wagon and one updated one.
Now that dont make much sense when I read it back.

October 20, 2006 at 10:11 pm #935AnonymousInactiveHi, The Layout Viewer will be available in a few days.
😉 @ Biggs: I find that a good idea, but it’s not so easy as DDS isn’t a much supported file format. Maybe I will find a solution for a coming version, but for the moment I will release the Layout Viewer as it actually is.
Kind regards,
Willi

October 24, 2006 at 7:10 am #937AnonymousInactiveHi all, I´m just testing this viewer and it´s beginning good. It´s as a beta. If i tested this at all i´ll report the functinally and the bugs to Willi,so he can revide some functions.
I hope this will help all users with bulk of many layouts. 💡 October 25, 2006 at 5:02 pm #938AnonymousInactiveI was just thinking, will this layout viewer be in English or will i have to have a course in German. Now how do you say good bye in German.
Aufwiersehen
October 25, 2006 at 5:34 pm #939AnonymousInactiveHi Reg, I´ve good contact to Willi and i´m just testing it. I hope Willi will implement locale files for english and other linguages.
💡 If you want a course in german then you can begin now.(joke)
To this time that viewer is stable, but this version dont have a launcher yet.
😥 But for search the name of that layout you need is is a good tool allreadyOctober 25, 2006 at 8:50 pm #940AnonymousInactiveHi Biggs and Peter, As the small tool is so easy to use, it’s only in English.
😉 But there is a help included in English and in German as well. These are the help files you can already take a look at on my website.@ Peter: For what reason should the layout viewer have a launcher? If you mean because of language selection, see above.
😉 Kind regards,
Willi
