More examples of early tank cars submitted for consideration. September 15, 2006 at 7:58 pm #647AnonymousInactiveYou’re welcome gents. The goal of all this is to enhance our use of this wonderful game without stepping on anyone’s toes. I’m eager to see what enhancements Brainbom has in store for us as well!
Best regards, Chris

You can believe me, me too!
I’m afraid, I can’t send you pics of European rolling stock. Today I wanted to do my first try to create a texture for RTR. For that reason, I took a close look at all the available rolling stock. And I noticed, that none of the 3D models is similar enough to represent the prototype somehow believable, at least not for Swiss rolling stock.
First we should have a few 3D models of freight cars, passenger cars and locomotives from BrainBombers.
Until then we enjoy your beautiful American rolling stock – from which BrainBombers will remove the bumpers, I hope.
Kind regards,
Willi
September 16, 2006 at 12:38 am #649AnonymousInactiveHi Willi, Thank you for taking the time to look.
One other possibility comes to mind. Would the wooden van car I constructed,
come in other color schemes? That texture contains three other cars so I would like to modify them as well to make the texture completely new.
I should also do something to the tank car texture as it contains two additional cars.
Thanks, Chris
September 16, 2006 at 1:38 am #650AnonymousInactiveHi Chris, Yes, this was exactly the car I wanted to create my first texture for, because it’s a quite simple car and texture. I have seen that there are 4 cars on one texture.
As you can see in the following pics of model railroad cars, the cars of this type of DB, DR and SBB were brown or red-brown and silver. But the SBB cars had platforms as some German cars had, too.
But the RTR car is too short and so I didn’t look, where the roof texture and the texture for the side of the underframe are in RTR, which had to be changed, too.

Kind regards,
Willi
September 16, 2006 at 10:45 am #651AnonymousInactiveHi Willi, The undercarriage for that car appears to be a shared file. I would hazard a guess that the size of the undercarriage is what governed the overall length of the car.
Thanks fot the files. I can at least modify the textures to reflect the paint scheme.
Regards, Chris
September 17, 2006 at 1:37 pm #652AnonymousInactiveHi Willi, The following image is based on ggueterchris01.jpg. As you’d mentioned earlier, the model/texture does not permit an exact duplication of the prototype so I’ve attempted to capture its ‘essence.’
Note that I’ve not included textual details since the portion of the texture representing the side of the car is mirrored four times with two of those reversed. The alpha channel can be used to add text but it would still be displayed four times (see the VR example contained in this texture).
The next question pertains to all those that model European railroads. Should I continue with the remaining two vans/cars in this texture or would it be a waste of time?
I’ve decided to provide a link to a zipped high resolution copy of vts_02.dds, the file that contains these two vans, in case you’d like to run them on your layouts. Please back up the original first before placing this file into the ..BrainbombersRule the Rail!Scenestrains folder.
You’ll notice that the file size is considerably larger than the original.
Regards, Chris
September 17, 2006 at 8:57 pm #653AnonymousInactiveHi Chris You have really done a great job to capture the essence of such a European freight car, as you remarked so aptly.
As for your question: Of course I can’t speak for others, who model European railroads. My personal opinion is: the 3D model of this car is just not close enough to anything I know rolling on European tracks to be worthwile your effort to deliver us European textures.
I think it’s better you keep on with your great US-prototype textures/skins.
We can just hope that BrainBombers will release some European models in the near future. Or maybe, they let some users develop models for them? I have quite some experience in 3D modeling. But before I start with a test model for them I would need detailed specifications of the X-files they need. Maybe I should contact them directly.
Again, as I said before, this is just my personal opinion.
Thanks again, Chris, for your great work!

September 18, 2006 at 4:48 am #654AnonymousInactiveOne more attempt at European rolling stock, the Finnish State Railways Intercity Pendolino (within the constraints of the model). September 18, 2006 at 6:41 am #655AnonymousInactiveHi chris,hi willi i tested the vts_02.dds(backuped the origin first) and it´s showing up.
The pendolino intercity looks good.
If i change the texture for innercity2 or the 5 then i can have a DB-ICE 1st generation,can i ?
: I´ll try it to see.💡 September 18, 2006 at 12:12 pm #656AnonymousInactiveHi Peter, I’d be interested in seeing any modifications you make.
As I mentioned earlier, one side is used four times to render the car so any text you wish to display would need to be done using the alpha channel.
Good luck!

September 18, 2006 at 12:18 pm #657AnonymousInactiveA New York Central System offering. I opted to offer this diesel without the NYC System logo as it would have been so small as to have been unrecognizable.
