Thought I’d post this separately because the image is a little large. … besides, this forum topic is probably a little more appropriate.
Those here in the US will recognize this as the type of tug boat (“push boat”) commonly used in the Chesapeake Bay and along the Intra Coastal Waterway and inland rivers to push barges loaded with usually raw materials; stone, grain, dry cement, etc.
This model isn’t finished yet. I’m still working on textures and a few missing parts, but I have to work to keep the mesh complexity down.
Notice the working “nav” lights! 3 mast lights means a tow greater than 150 meters or 200 feet; Yellow over white stern lights means pushing ahead or “on the hip”. I’m trying to trick RtR into showing a “light” shadow from the spot lights but I’m not sure it’ll work. There’s some other lighting tricks I’d like to experiment with, too, and I’m not particularly satisfied with the pilot-house windows.
BTW, my graphics board won’t support RtR’s complex water so I don’t know how it will look with that.
I’ll use this thread to show progress only for this model.

This one’s done and here’s some screen shots. I made all the pieces separate so the barges can be loaded or not. The wheel-wash can be added for a boat under way or left off for a boat that’s dockside.
Guess I have to make a dock now.

It’s actually a semi-transparent shadow with the simple water texture instead of black so it doesn’t show up in daylight. It doesn’t really illuminate anything but itself,
but it looks pretty cool! [img]http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l287/3dpdk/spot.jpg [/img] I’m working on a few “harbor” objects, but there’s really enough that could be made under that category, it might warrant it’s own pack.

April 18, 2007 at 2:34 am #1941AnonymousInactiveJust an example of the “harbor” objects. A dock with corrugated steel bulkhead, bollards, and dolphins (the grouped pilings). A “load-out” like this gives a table purpose.

By the way, the barge comes empty so it can be loaded with anything included in your objects library. Logs and crates come to mind …
